When should I visit UrgentCARE?

Typical problems include wounds requiring stitches, minor burns, sprains and minor fractures, infections, rashes, bites, flu, sore throats, ear aches, and other conditions that need same-day attention.

When should I go to the doctor?

The majority of your care should be delivered by your personal physician. While UrgentCARE is appropriate for noncritical emergencies, it is not designed to provide follow-up care, well-patient visits, physicals, or many of the other day-to-day medical conditions that arise. Your own physician is most familiar with your medical history and is best prepared to manage your long-term care.

When should I visit the emergency room?

You need to go to the hospital emergency department at St. Joseph's Medical Center when illness or injury could cause serious harm, or appears severe or life threatening. Conditions such as chest pains, major injuries and bleeding, unconsciousness, disorientation, severe accidents, injuries in which bones pierce the skin, etc. should be handled through the emergency room.

Do I need an appointment?

You are encouraged to call before visiting UrgentCARE. By calling, we can assess your condition and recommend the appropriate treatment avenue, whether it be UrgentCARE, your physician's office, or the Emergency Room.  When you call, a nurse is available to help you assess your condition and recommend the appropriate treatment avenue, whether it be UrgentCARE, your doctor's office, or the emergency room. Walk-in patients will be seen as quickly as time allows based on existing activity and the seriousness of the problem.   (218-828-2880 · 218-855-5478 · 800-277-8262)

Will my insurance cover my UrgentCARE visit?

UrgentCARE at BMC accepts a wide variety of insurance coverage. If you are a patient at BMC, and have previously filled out insurance information, your information should be in our computer and available to UrgentCARE staff. We will automatically bill your insurance company for your visit. However, many insurance providers require a co-payment at the time care is given. Because of the level of medical care involved, UrgentCARE may cost more than a clinic visit, but far less than an emergency room visit.
